Children of the World
I’ve always been interested in my own family’s immigrant origins. Where did we come from, and how does that make us who we are? How do parents, who emigrated to the U.S. from other places, help their children understand who they are, in their new world?
Children of the World is a story, in photographs and words, about children of immigrant families who live in the Boston area. My goal is to photograph children from different countries.
I want to introduce these different worlds and cultures to a wider audience. My hope is that the viewer will learn something about the ‘children of the world’ here among us.
About Randi
I am a storyteller at heart. I specialize in "documentary portraits". This means that my goal is to show something about the essence of the person I'm photographing, in their environment. It starts with establishing a connection - what a thrill it is when it all comes together and the photograph works!
I earned a BFA in Photography from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. This fine art background, combined with my photojournalistic style, informs all of my work.
One of my special gifts is providing an atmosphere where people can relax and be themselves in front of the camera.
"It is one thing to photograph people. It is another to make others care about them by revealing the core of their humanness." - Paul Strand
